What type of job can you obtain with a degree in communication?

What jobs are out there for people in communication?

I am having trouble deciding my major....liberal studies is way too general...and I'm not sure about business. I love music and would want to major in that but don't want to live at my moms house until I'm 40.

Also, what graduate studies could I go for with a bachelors in communication? Could I go for a doctorate? What type of job can you obtain with a degree in communication?
Wow...good future/ foward thinking on your part sonny. I was a comm. major and it opens more doors than you think. Many organizations need people with good communication skills...I went into financial services and have since recvd my MBA. I think most companies just like to see a degree...unless it is a specific industry like construction mgmt or health sciences. And I think you can go for most any grad studies program as a undergrad comm major...again, unles it is specific like law school, or doc school. You should do what you love tho...get your music degree and then get a teaching cert and teach music. Think outside the box. Good luck man.
The one you can get talkingWhat type of job can you obtain with a degree in communication?
Derek

I got my undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Communication. I went on and got a Master's degree in Organizational Communication. And I am now working on a Ph.D. in Organizational Development. I am an organizational consultant who works for one of the larger consulting companies in the world. So that is my career path and is a career path that anyone with a Communications degree can have if they are willing to advance into graduate school. But Communication is so diverse, you can go into so many fields: Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, Management, Human Resources, Training and Development, and there are more. Many will tell you the best that you can do is flip burgers with such a degree. The only time I've ever flipped burgers was in high school. I've done well and you can to. You just might have to work harder to get your foot in the door than a business student would coming out after graduation.
talking and listening,,,,What type of job can you obtain with a degree in communication?
a communicator
You can go for a doctorate to be a prof. of comm. as far as careers w/ a bacherlors you can: work in advertising, speech writing, etc. With a masters you can teach @ a CC.

Communications in itself is pretty broad/general so there are many diff. jobs you can do with it.

Think about maybe majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders and become a speech therapist.

Well, if you think lib stud. is too general think twice about comm.
These are examples of jobs can be obtained with a communication degree:

Advertising Executive

Broadcast Technician

Columnist

Copywriter

Disc Jockey

Editor

Journalist

Lobbyist

Media Specialist

Producer

Public Relations Specialist

Publisher

Reporter

Speech Writer

Teacher

Technical Writer

Video Engineer
You could work as Editor for a small newspager or magazine or Lobbyist. It would be cool to be a Lobbyist because you would be able to lobby to change laws. If you get your master in this maybe you can become a teacher and teach this to someone else. I never considered communications because it is usually associate with rich people who need to get a degree or some lazy person who don't want to be cut off their mommy's or daddy's income. Good luck with it.
Fry chef. Waiter. Most any service industry job.

Unless you're on the football team, pick a real major.
