What is communication studies in middle school?

I am in middle school 6th grade going to 7th grade.

I am choosing either communitcaation studies or spanish next year. But what exactly is communication studies and don't give me this long definition. Please tell me in words that i can understand.What is communication studies in middle school?
I can't speak for communications classes in Public School, but I will tell you about the communication classes my homeschooler has taken. In these classes he had to learn how to write and give speeches properly.
